Sports Management Jobs
Management Jobs can include the Sports Management category.
Sports management jobs include titles like athletic business manager, agent, fitness manager, and sports program director in community programs or in schools or colleges. Some managers work in arenas, sports information, ticket sales, fitness centers, event planning, and sales or in broadcasting as well. Most sports managers will be responsible for financial operations.
As with all occupations, experience and college degrees determine the opportunities available. Most sports management degrees are business degrees and prepare you for management jobs. Choose a school that is near to and has affiliations with professional sports teams like the University of Connecticut and University of Indiana. Look for internship programs and network. Steer away from low paying jobs in sectors like hospitality and travel. Keep in mind that a degree that is too narrow, i.e., sports, might not be valuable to you in the future. Lawyers and accountants can also work as sports managers.
The sports industry used to be impervious to the economy. Now, with the recession, sports management jobs are harder to find. Teams, tournaments, the N.F.L. and the N.B.A have all cut jobs.
