    Information Technology Job Descriptions. Technology has become very diverse and the need for managers who can align technology solutions with business strategies is growing. Companies, Colleges and Non-Profits need professionals who can implement computer security systems, computer networks, develop internet sites, analyze systems, support administration, provide quality assurance for software, develop applications, manage client’s technology projects, design software, and supervise computer programmers and engineers. According to an article by Charles Hamilton 1/7/11 at gigaom.com, a study by Indeed showed that postings for IT jobs increased by 82 percent over December 2009.

    The usual career path starts with gaining experience as a computer programmer or analyst, moving to management, and then possibly being promoted to project manager, chief technology officer and then to chief information officer.

    Information Technology managers either work on the technology infrastructure for one company, or work on a company’s client’s technology needs. A Global IT Manager would need to provide support in Windows, UNIX, Networks, Telecommunications and Business Applications for all of the business locations.
    Some of the largest companies hiring now are IBM, HP and Deloitte.

    Information Technology Job Descriptions requires a Bachelors degree in computer science or related technical field; and a minimum of five years of work experience including experience working in IT management and project management. Additionally, knowledge of both Apple and Windows platforms is desirable as is software application development experience in internet, intranet, infrastructure, networks, and applications. Ability to work with staff to determine needs, communicate options clearly to senior managers, and effectively source outside vendors. The candidate should be creative and be able to manage himself as well as others. Project managers should know MS Office Suite.

    Preparing for an IT Manager career can take years, but the result will be a high paying, versatile job.
